I have always been intrigued about the world around me - from dissecting a worm at the age of 5 to studying the complex nature of the immune system at 25. After completing high school, I studied Pharmacology at University. Finding myself drawn to research, I studied for a master of research degree in 2009. As part of this, I gained experience in animal models of cardiovascular disease, lung disease and rheumatoid arthritis. I found it extremely rewarding, to be able to develop a theory, test its validity and add to the scientific knowledge base. I felt I was contributing to the advancement of medical research. With the view of developing a career in academic research I studied for a PhD in cardiovascular Immunology. Although studying for a PhD is challenging, the skills, and knowledge I gained are invaluable.

After completing my PhD I started a post-doctoral position at The University of Glasgow, where I continue to work. As part of my job I study how the immune system interacts with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). This is important, as no effective immunization for HCV exists. I find my job extremely rewarding as I work with a team of scientists, doctors and patients. Furthermore, I feel extremely grateful for being able to work with very rare patient samples. In a way, each sample tells me a story of how the hepatitis C virus moulds the immune response in each patient.
